Statement of Approval   The American Academy of Reflexology is the First Licensed School in California dedicated exclusively to the study of Reflexology, California Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocation Education School Code 1929551. The American Academy of Reflexology is in full agreement with all applicable education codes and the Department of Consumer Affairs.

American Reflexology Certification Board   The 150 Hour Integrated Foot Hand Ear Reflexology Professional Certificate Course at the American Academy of Reflexology meets or exceeds ARCB standards.

Ownership   The American Academy of Reflexology is a sole proprietorship of Bill Flocco, Founder/Director.

Mission   The American Academy of Reflexology is dedicated to improving the quality of life around California, the United States of America, and the world, by providing the highest quality educational program to all adults interested in the study and practice of Reflexology. The Academy is totally dedicated to our students having a highly successful learning experience and to helping our graduates become exceptionally successful practitioners of Reflexology.

Objectives   The objective of the course work is to provide the student with an understanding of the fundamentals of Reflexology, including an understanding of the history and theory behind Reflexology. It involves hands-on techniques that provide students with practical experience in the successful application of foot, hand and ear Reflexology for both the beginner and the professional Reflexologist. For the student wishing to do Reflexology professionally, the objective of the course work is to prepare the student with the knowledge and skills to become a successful and highly effective practitioner.

Nondiscrimination   Students are admitted without regard to race, color, sex, religion, age, national origin or disability (as long as the student has the capacity to perform the hands-on skills normally required of a practitioner in the field of Reflexology).

Student Counseling   It is our desire for the student to succeed in their studies at the AAR. To that end, the instructor works closely with each student throughout the course. Students requiring special assistance are encouraged and invited to bring their special learning needs to the attention of the instructor.

Placement Services   Since Reflexologists are self employed, placement services are not available. However, whenever the Academy receives a call from someone wanting the services of a Reflexologist, the caller is either given the names of Reflexologists in their area, or a Reflexologist is called, to in-turn, call the interested party. When someone is looking for a Reflexologist to work at their facility, we either give the caller the names of Reflexologists in the area, or call Reflexologists in the area, giving them the number of the person making the request.

Hotels and Motel Accommodations   For students traveling to class from other parts of California, other states or countries, who would like to rent a hotel or motel room, a list of hotels and motels will gladly be provided upon request.

Admission   To be admitted to the full 150 Hour Integrated Foot Hand Ear Reflexology Professional Certificate Course, the student must be a high school graduate or at least 18 years of age, tour the school, receive certain disclosures and sign an enrollment agreement. Students under the age of 18 are only admitted with written parental consent and approval of the Academy Director.

Students From Other Countries   Students from other countries are advised that all classes are conducted in English, that all legal entry and residency requirements are the responsibility of and the expense of the student. Conversations will need to be conducted ahead of time, between the prospective student and the Director, to determine if the student has an acceptable level of English proficiency to ensure successful participation and completion of the full course of study.

Attendance   Because of the highly participatory nature of the Academy program, the student will gain the greatest amount of learning by attending all classes. Students must attend at least 70% of the class sessions and complete all required hours of practice (practicum), in order to complete the course. Students will need to make up hours missed through lack of attendance. Make up can be discussed with the Director.

Tardiness   Instruction presentations are limited to small groups, usually under 25 students, so as to ensure that each student receives individualized attention from the instructor. When students come to class tardy, it can be disruptive to the flow and distracting to the sensitive nature of the subjects which we deal with in class. Consequently, promptness to class helps enhance the learning process. Students more than 15 minutes late will not receive credit for that hour of instruction. Students will need to make up time missed through tardiness. Make up can be discussed with the Director.

Dropout   Students dropping out of the course may receive a tuition refund based upon our refund policy outlined in this catalog. The last day of classes attended will be considered the date of cancellation, whether or not a cancellation notice is given by the student to the Director.

Leave-of-absence   Students may request a leave of absence in the event of illness, family emergency or other compelling reasons. The student may then be admitted to a later course when they are covering the same material that was missed. If the student would like to review the part of the course they already took, the fee will be only 50% of the per-diem fee at the time of review. Fees for the part of the course that was not yet taken, will reflect the per-diem fees at the time of attending the rest of the course.

Student Conduct   Any student may be dismissed by the Director, for any behavior that could lead to injury, or which could damage the school facilities or disrupt the normal presentation of course work or other operations of the school. Intoxication, drugged behavior, behavior deemed inappropriate, possession of a weapon or behavior creating a safety hazard to other persons at the school, or repeated absence without valid excuse are grounds for immediate dismissal.

Complaint Resolution   If you find you have a problem at the American Academy of Reflexology, please discuss the problem with your instructor. The school is dedicated to providing you with an enjoyable atmosphere that helps you to learn. If for any reason you are unable to resolve the matter, you may submit a written complaint to: The American Academy of Reflexology, 725 E. Santa Anita Avenue, Suite B, Burbank, CA 91501-2964. 1. You are not a California resident,
  2. Your total charges are paid by a third party, such as an employer, government program or other payer, and you have no separate agreement to repay the third party.
It is important that you keep copies of the enrollment agreement, financial aid papers, if any, receipts, or any other information that documents the monies paid to the school. Reflexology As An Occupation   Yes. Many people study Reflexology to use on themselves, their families, and friends. However, Reflexology is rapidly emerging around the USA and the world, as a separate, highly respected independent profession. Reflexology has been featured on almost every major TV talk show, has been featured in numerous magazines, is acknowledged by a number of major insurance companies and HMO's, has professional Reflexology organizations, is the subject of international Reflexology symposia and conferences, has extensive published research validating it's effectiveness, has over a hundred books written on the subject, and is recognized by both the White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine, as well as the National Institutes for Health.

Full Time vs. Part Time Profession   Most people who practice Reflexology professionally, do so on a part time basis and are self-employed. The income a practitioner achieves is primarily dependent on their personal diligent efforts. If you decide to practice full time, we encourage you to build your practice on a part time basis, keeping your current employment, until income from your Reflexology practice is abundant enough to replace your current income.

Licensure   Everyone can practice Reflexology. However, if you would like to practice Reflexology professionally, you will want to get the appropriate license. In California, there is no state level licensing. Consequently, all licensing is done by the city or unincorporated county area where you want to have a practice. Since there are over 800 municipalities in California, we recommend that you check with the city or unincorporated county area where you want to work, for details of their requirements for licensure.

Credit for Prior Experience or Training   Although the Academy acknowledges the value of prior experience, because of the unique nature of our entire training program, credit for past experience is not available. The value of prior education is also acknowledged, however, because of the unique nature of our entire training program, credit for prior education is not available. The Director may take into account unique situations.

Credit For Seminars Taught By Authorized Academy Instructors   If a student has taken the 28 Hour Foot Hand Ear Seminar with an Authorized Academy Instructor, during the past two years, whether the class was taken at the Academy or at another institution, as long as the student has satisfactorily passed the Foot Hand Ear Seminar, we will consider applying the 28 hours, as well as the Foot Hand Ear Course fee, toward the rest of the 150 Hour Integrated Foot Hand Ear Reflexology Professional Certificate Course.

Specialized Instructional Materials & Equipment   For the 150 Hour Integrated Foot Hand Ear Reflexology Professional Certificate Course, all materials have been written and developed specifically for the unique nature of this training program. Printed materials include workbooks, illustrations of hands-on routines, and an extensive integrated Reflexology manual containing written text, workbook exercises, study guides, extensive use of illustrations, photographs, charts and other special features. Some visual aids used are: charts, overhead projector, models of feet, hands, ears, human body, and other two and three dimensional learning aids. Most hands-on work is done using comfortable Reflexology tables.

Library & Reference Materials   Although we do not have a library, a variety of reference materials are brought into class. During the course a list of reference books is provided, with an explanation of how and when they might best be used by a Reflexology practitioner.

Record Retention   Student records are retained for 5 years. Transcripts are available upon written request.
